Introduction

Australias healthcare industry is identified as one of the best health care industry in the world. But it can perform better by facing important challenges in the future. The average life expectancy in Australia is 6th highest in the world. The life expectancy of a man is eighty years and womens eighty-four years. The nation is relatively healthy and there is no calamity in the health care industry. Though, based on close study of data and expert visions the country will face emerging challenges in the health care industry. Diseases like obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer are increasing with the faster rate and it will happen more to the people in the future. In the future, the lifestyle of people will be lethargic and they will consume junk food on a daily basis. The advancement of medicine and increasing the cost of health treatment and technologies will evaluate the growth rate of 4 percent for health care outflow by 2050. The reason behind this phenomenon is the number of aging population and increasing of the population as well as the growth of prolonged diseases (Bonner et al., 2018). The mixture of increasing population in Australia and a changing demographic is developing the need for the proper health care sector. So, this foreseeable report will determine the three possible future situations of health care industries in Australia and the implication of one scenario in the industry.

Three possible future scenarios of the health care industry on the basis of environmental forces (political-legal, economy, sociocultural, technology and environmental) of the Australian health care industry the three possible future scenarios are determined which is given below-

  • Increasing the cost of treatment and technologies
  • Lifestyle and difficulty of medical advancement
  • Impact on Variable degrees of consumer empowerment

Increasing the cost of treatment and technologies in the future scenario of Australia, the diseases will be more which require more diagnostic tools and treatment as well as access to expert care. All these issues will increase the cost to health care. It will increase the trend of western medicine and will progress in the same direction. This issue will develop the difficulties for general physicians who have to manage the general needs of the patients (Haluza amp Jungwirth, 2015). They also have to update the knowledge of different spheres. It will affect the quality of the facility and their degree of competence. In the future, the diseases will be more which will be divided into the category that are states and niche. The categorizations will be based on phases of diseases or the nature of its occurrence. The result of this that experts like cardiologist, surgeon or radiologist are required super specialized in order to maintain the required knowledge of medical advancements. Another major reason for increasing cost of treatment is that the government created the health program without insurance and program demand of health care facilities. And the provider has the ability to increase the price of treatment. Government policy also plays a significant role in increasing the cost of health treatment. In future the political and economic condition changes in the country it also impacts on the cost of health treatment and its technology. Also, the cost of health care tools and technology is costly which lead to expensive treatment. In a future situation, hospital and the organization of Australia should look for the innovative technology which will reduce the cost of treatment.
Lifestyle and difficulty of medical advancementIn the upcoming time, the health result in Australia can be determined outside the health sector.

The major chronic diseases will occur due to lifestyle selections. In future availability of healthy food is also the major problem of the Australian environment. So, the people of Australia will consume fast food compared to healthy food. The eating lifestyle will lead to obesity among the young generation of the country and the obsessive eating habit will lead to prolonged disease. The research shows that in the future the junk food will be more accessible and available food in the supermarket and caf will have more calories and low nutrition. And the future generation average life expectancy will be shorter than their parents because of lifestyle selection (Burns amp Pauly, 2018). With the changing in lifestyle, the aging population also play a major role in the health care industry. The increases of the aging population will increase the diseases which already observed in the health industry. It will increase the resource utilization and demand for facilities as it will impact on the growth rate of health insurance claims and hospitalization. Health insurance will cover the fee of disease treatment in the public sector. Health care industry of Australia concentrates on the curing of diseases rather than improving wellness. Hence, in future, the treatment of the patient will be based on the symptoms instead of focusing on the risk issues and the basic source of condition (Dabrh, Gorty, Jenkins, Murad amp Hensrud, 2016). People with prolonged diseases will require more expert services to manage their needs especially as they get older. The aging population will be a challenge for the health industry because they required trained staff and financial help.

Impact on Variable degrees of consumer empowerment

In a future situation, public and private health sector of Australia will impact on the consumer empowerment. People in the public sector will have availability of reimbursement and will not pay for the public facilities. So, they will not get the option to select their primary care or specialist in the health industry. The lacks of choice will lose the empowerment of the consumer when dealing with the sickness. Because there is not a powerful initiative to enhance the services in order to fulfill the requirement of the consumer (Mahapatra, 2017). Relatively, the private sector consumer will pay fees for their health services and so they will be more empowered. The empowerment will increase their choices like they will their own doctor. The private sector patients are able to afford therapies, health foods, and costly medications. Hence, the private and public health sector impact on the variable degree of customer empowerment because of differential flow into the system. In the future, the industry needs to be people-centric. By tapping into a customers lifestyle, the health sector will engage the people and support them to live healthier lives.

One selected scenario- Increasing the cost of treatment and technologies selected future scenario is increasing the cost of treatment and technologies in Australia. This situation is selected because the research shows that in the upcoming time the acute and the chronic diseases will increase so demand of the health care sector will also increase. With the increase of demand the cost of treatment and technology used for treatment will also grow. The time patient will bear the increasing cost of treatment which impacts on their financial responsibility. Due to the higher cost of treatment Australian will struggle to afford health treatment (Frieden, 2015). The patients of Australia will become more sensitive to the cost of health treatment. It will increase the financial burden on the consumer and also impact on the revenue of the health care industry. The reasons for increasing the cost of treatment and technologies in future are mentioned belowGrowing and the aging population In the future situation, Australia population will increase and also the aging population will also increase. So, the health care industry becomes more costly. These two are the highest factor of increasing the cost treatment.

Growth in Chronic illness In upcoming time prolonged diseases will be more among the Australian population because of their lifestyle (Krachler amp Greer, 2015). The treatment of chronic diseases will bear the most cost.

Health Insurance premiums In future the health insurance premium will be more because of its concern with the increasing cost of health treatment. The two major reasons will be changing in lifestyle and government policy.
The reason mentioned above will be responsible for the growing health care cost. Health consumers will avoid healthcare treatment because they will not able to pay the cost.

Implication on scenarios implication related to the chosen scenario is mentioned below

The required cost-effective principle in health care industry In health care industry surgeons and healthcare management widely use the clinical process. The process will be costly and conducted at high volume. To control this cost few guidelines can be enforced. Enforce guideline will also decrease the cost of treatment (Najafzadeh et al., 2015).

The health care sector should focus on providing the most suitable treatment with an efficient price so that in future everyone is able to access the health care service.
Reuse the existing resources and facilities In future general practices and even offices can be reuse like using space for simple nutritional counseling or exercise. This change will lead to reducing the cost of treatment and technologies.

Financial care with the quality of clinical care Like most of the health care provider and the patients are attentive towards the quality of health care. Healthcare seeks the consumer when they are avoiding or delaying the treatment because of costing. The healthcare industry should neglect the financial aspect of the patients and provide an overall quality experience to patients and society.

Providing financing options The Australian health industry requires the partner with creditors who able to understand healthcare expenses and their interest rate are suitable with the risk. They also require adapting the patients capability to pay.

Extend influence outside the industry In future obesity will be the major attribute of a lazy lifestyle. It includes the absence of exercises and increasing the consumption of junk food (Curtis, amp Burns, 2015). So, the health care industry can extend its proficiency in the field of social policy in order to generate better health result. The healthcare consultants should focus on the city planning to boost the exercise. The given solution will decrease chronic diseases and also help to reduce the cost of health care treatment.

Enable customer participation in their health journey In any industry, empowered customer forces the development in the system. Therefore, the health industry needs to empower patients to improve the industry. In the health industry the public sectors patient generally does not have the option to select the doctor or expert. Due to the lack of choice, it disempowers the patients and so no initiative is taken to innovate the system. It can be possible to empower the people by using the online platforms to educate the consumer by providing the information related to the health choices (Rein, Wittenborn, Smith, Liffmann, amp Ward, 2015). The health sector can also provide the devices so that allows the consumer for the responsibility of their own health. This self-monitoring technique is also beneficial in the rural health sector. Empowering the customer in the health sector will lead to increases the choices as well as help to reduce the cost treatment because the consumer will find more option in the health sector.

Personal Reflection

I believed that the future of the health care industry is difficult and complex because in coming time more challenges will occur. Challenges like increasing the cost of the treatment, increasing the complexity of medical advancement and also it influencing the consumer empowerment. I understand that the health sector is most important in the future because the lazy lifestyle and consumption of junk food are increasing rapidly. And it will lead to the growth of diseases in the country. I feel that increased diseases will increase the demand of health industry so the health industry should be economical as well as accessible to all consumers (Gleeson et al., 2015). The health industry should reduce the complexity of the medical techniques focus on the advancement of the treatment. As I feel the health industry need some improvement in the future so that is capable to face the challenges. I learned that in upcoming time the industry should focus on the empowerment of the consumer as they will get more choices in the public sector of the health care industry. The empowerment of consumers will boost the public sector of the health industry. I realized that for the betterment of the health industry, the health consultant should focus on the people health issue like providing them monthly checkups etc. (Pomey et al., 2015). They should also encourage them to exercise and healthy living. I also feel that in the future situation there will lot of health concern will be increased so in order to reduce it the skilled doctor and staff are required.

The better infrastructure of health care institutions is also required. But the most important requirement is better health care services with economical treatment. I think in the future condition the government of Australia should seek innovative and new technologies and equipment to reduce the cost of treatment as well as it will be cost effective for the health care sector. I feel that there are various things which need to take care of the health care sector for future preparation. As the health challenges will grow in the future the demand of health care sector will increase. So, it is important that the health care industry should be well prepared for the upcoming challenges and opportunities. In the future, the industry needs to work on the cost of treatment and technologies which will be the major concern of the customers. Need to work on consumer empowerment in order to utilize all services. The growing population and aging population are the main challenge in the health sector for the future so the health industry needs to work on this to avoid future consequences.
