Personal Statement

Having spent a significant amount of time in the U.K, I have perceived that a number of educational institutions across the country have come a long way in education reform, yet there are too many phrontisteries to be counted that are in pressing needs of dedicated teachers, owing to the budgetary concerns and low educator retention. I’m greatly driven by the desire to aid the student community around me and contribute to it profusely in a meaningful way, thus I have chosen to pursue Post Graduate Certificate in Education from your coveted university and arm myself with all the prerequisites to become a phenomenal teacher of business studies and make a difference in the lives of as many students as I can.

I have leveraged my intellect and diligence to achieve considerable success throughout the time I spent in academia and concluded my first degree in Accounting and Finance from Edo State University, Nigeria in the year 2005, which aided me to gain a substantial understanding of a series of disciplines namely Financial Accounting, Quantitative Methods, Financial Management, Elements of Strategic Management, Advanced Financial Management and Stock Exchange & Portfolio Management. Having a perspective to help the students who grew up in high-needs areas and struggled to go to the phrontisteries, I began conducting classes to teach them different subjects, immediately after concluding my degree with flying colors. While progressing with every step of my life, I later acquired a slot in a postgraduate diploma program in financial management at the University of East London where I could sharpen my concepts of Financial Management, Human Resource Management, and Production Management to a great extent and acquired valuable insights into sundry significant financial courses such as Risk Management, Financial Systems, and Corporate Finance.

Subsequent to the completion of my postgraduate diploma in Financial Management, I opened a Security company that provided armed and unarmed security services to private and public clients. I responsibly created business plans, arranged finances, hired staff, developed marketing strategies, and identified business opportunities. Gradually, I started feeling like what inspired me to open a security company at the beginning of my journey was no longer an inspiration for me. I started experiencing that my personal growth became stagnant and all I wanted to do is to teach students and help them achieve their vocational goals. With this mind, I put my name down in a diploma program in teaching and education at (mention college/university name) in the year 2019 and concluded it with path worthy grades in April 2020. The holistic course curriculum of the program coupled with intensive training sessions equipped me with requisite knowledge and skills to teach students in a variety of disciplines. I made conscious efforts to develop an idiosyncratic ability to instruct students, organize lesson plans, and manage classroom activities while gaining hands-on teaching experience. Now at this juncture of my career, I wish to specialize in Business Studies while pursuing a postgraduate certificate in education from your renowned university/college, which has a stellar reputation in my chosen field of study.

Owing to my prior experience in teaching, I have come to develop a notion that it is the only direct way to make an impact on students’ lives and help them transmute their dreams into reality. Whatever I have learned and experienced earlier in my life and what I will learn in business studies through this postgraduate certificate program, I wish to share that with the new generation of students and become their source of inspiration in identifying their niche and assisting them in making decisions to pursue a career in education. I wish to make an impact on students’ lives that can extend far beyond the classroom and help them in shaping a better person; my focus will be on encouraging the students who are struggling with low-self esteem and problems at home to aid them to realize their potential while imparting life lessons to influence their behaviors, strengths, willpower and decision-making abilities, eventually putting myself at a position from where I can give a particular shape to the next generation. Though I could have opted to study administration or management and embark upon the profiles of government officials and school administrators who have a substantial impact at the legislative level, but with a quest to have a direct influence on students in the classroom – that is, after all, where learning takes place, I wish to become an educator and help thousands of students in developing their skills, specifically in business.
