Research Question, Background and Significance

Research Question

As the whole has been identified based on the relevant research title and so the following research question has been implemented:

How does domestic violence and homelessness play a vital role for Young Australians?

How do Young Australians lead to homelessness and domestic violence?

How homelessness and domestic violence impact Young Australians?

These are some of the research questions on which the analysis has been focused on in the overall report. These research questions are based on the impact of homelessness and domestic violence on the young adults located in a country like Australia and the way they perceive them.

Rationale/Significance of the Research

This research is based on the treatment or the impact that the young adults face in Australias and the main significance of this report is to analyze a plan for a research proposal (Woodlock, 2017). This research will cover all the aspects of significance like methodology, sampling and ethics which might at the end clarify the theory behind this analysis. This report will discuss the relevant research questions and their influences on the teenagers belonging from the country, Australia. Over here, the arguments arise regarding the impact of this violence on the adults and their instincts towards those treatments and the influence. This is a very usual scenario where lots of adults or teenagers face these issues on a regular basis (Woodlock, 2017).

Review Relevant Literature

Family violence and domestic violence are the most general reason for the occurrence of homelessness for all those people who seek from the special support system. The Australian paper has been published where it stated that most of the young adults have been escaping the family and domestic violence and try to get access to secure, affordable and that can be available immediately becomes a critical factor for the supportive pathway. Homelessness that is usually caused by domestic violence has a close association with the victim's independence over financial matters (Holt, 2016). In Australia, the teenagers or the young adults are somehow economically weak and they have to take more time to work on the workforce of taking care of themselves and to get a part-time job to earn their own living, but they get very less as they are inexperienced and are not doing a full hour job. The group of some young adults who are having risk due to the family and domestic violence have to experience financial hardships and have to suffer and bear the domestic and family violence. In several cases, social and economical limitations also threaten them from accessing the housing facility. There are many experiences that a teenager has. They might themselves experience by being a witness or suffering them physically. The violence impacts the teenager if they experience the violence and reluctantly abuse themselves, they might have witnessed some violence like distress, damaged property or injuries. They might have heard someone speaking of violence or they might be living in a violent environment or home (Holt, 2016).

Even if they have not directly experienced the violence but being exposed directly to violence can pose a great risk. The teenager can respond to the impact of the violence in many ways such as lashing out, anger or aggression. They might have nightmares, trouble in sleeping, chronic tiredness or bedwetting. They might suffer from anxiety, panic and depression. The victim might get addicted to alcohol and drugs. They will face difficulties in school and have a tendency from getting disengaged from school (Björktomta, 2019). They will tend to avoid the home or social situation. In order to prevent these, some precautions or some policies need to be followed by providing a positive relationship with adult teenagers and need to be open-minded with a positive attitude (Björktomta, 2019). And the teenagers must be allowed to take part in seeking help from a professional as support and prepare for safety plans. They must be trusted and make good and positive bonds with and make them feel free instead of making them feel dominated into something. The victims might feel guilty about themselves as they feel shame belonging from a violent family and home. As the attention is the important inventory they require and when it is absent they start hiding their emotions and feelings and insight them which as a result haunts them all the time. Therefore, during this stage, great attention should be provided for not letting feel to be alone and get guilt from the inside (Björktomta, 2019)

Methodology

Research Approach

The types of research approaches are as follows

Explanatory Approach: The explanatory Approach seeks to establish a relationship between the cause and its effects. In many of the research cases, the relationship between the cause and the effects that can be an outcome of the cause is not properly studied or not properly established. Within the explanatory approach, the focus on the study is on this particular area. In the research in hand, we have to establish the relationship between homelessness and domestic violence (Coomber et al, 2019). The cause here is domestic violence and one of the main effects is homelessness. The research approach can be appropriate for such a type of study and strategy of study.

Remedial Approach: In the remedial approach the research is conducted under non-ideal conditions and the study is conducted in a way so as to create strategies through which the conditions can be ultimately improved. The non-ideal conditions mean that as a result of the prevailing norms, people who are under the purview of the study would have to suffer. This type of research creates methods through which a discussion would be carried out within the scope of the research and the ways to improve the situation of the people might be generated as a result of the findings of the research. In this particular case, domestic violence is a situation that perpetually harms people and hence, the remedial approach might contribute to the study (Stubbs & Wangmann, 2017).

Descriptive Approach: In the descriptive approach, the characteristics of the study are laid out by the researcher in a descriptive manner. The problems and the issues faced by the research are explained by the researcher in a descriptive manner. The research is extensive because it has to include each and every detail with regard to the problems and the subject of the research. There is no systemization of the research at the beginning. The systematization process has to be carried out by the researcher once the facts and the details with regard to the research have been laid out properly (McPhedran, Gover & Mazerolle, 2017). This approach to the research might be a solution for the topic at hand in this particular research because every detail might be important for the researcher.

Out of the above approaches to research, the Explanatory research approach has been chosen by the researcher because it has a much better case in laying down the process of the research (Roberts, 2018). The cause and effect relationship is a vital process in this research and by following such an approach, the purpose of the research would be fulfilled in an appropriate and proper manner.

Research Methods

Both quantitative and qualitative research would be performed by the researcher in this case. Quantitative research is important because the issue of domestic violence is an intimate matter. Without interacting with the people who have either been faced with such a situation or have firsthand knowledge about the factors that surround domestic violence in general, the research would not have proper facts and information that are needed to conduct it in an efficient manner (Keam & Cook, 2016). The survey interview would create and mold a much better set of information that is crucial to the outcome of the research. It would provide the researcher with a much broader and much more personal perspective if the survey questions are framed in a proper manner.

At the same time, it is highly important to conduct qualitative research because the facts and analysis can be drawn from the qualitative research itself. The cause and effects relationship will be established through the study of the literature and analysis done on the literature itself. It would provide the researcher with valuable input regarding the topic of the study (MacKenzie, 2018). It would also provide the researcher with the input regarding the direction the study would take and the choice of the researcher would be based on the analysis conducted on the literature. Hence, it can be established that both qualitative and quantitative research is crucial to the purpose of the research itself.

Gathering of Data

The data would be gathered based on the effects of the people who have been subjected to domestic violence. The questions of the survey would need to be sensitive and probing about the nature and the perspective of such people in relation to domestic violence. It is important that the selection of the individuals to be conducted in this research properly and the consent of the participants of the survey are met in the first place (MacKenzie, Flatau, Steen & Thielking, 2016). The participants of the research would need to be clear about their perspectives and the questions should be framed in such a way that it would bring out as much information as is possible from the individuals. The questions to the experts in this field would also need to be information seeking. A proper analysis of the data is only possible when the questions address the issues of the problem deeply.

Sampling

Target Sample

The target sample is a purposeful and systematic method by which a specific list is controlled among a specified population within a particular geographical area. This sample develops a detailed plan for designing the recruit of the various number of cases form each of the targeted groups but they are not random (Bracewell et al., 2020).

Here, a target sample has been done on about 100 young adults from Australia and their age group is from 14 to 25 years. As the report is on the analysis of the impact of homelessness and domestic violence on the Young Australians, so to have the identification this sample is specifically done on the teenagers and to record their experience about domestic violence (Mota et al., 2018).

Sampling Method

Sampling is explained as the selection of the subset of an individual target from a specifically selected group for the purpose of estimating the characteristics of the overall teenagers in the selected geographical area (Bracewell, 2017). This is a random selection without any specifications applied. Here, a few groups of adult teenagers will be selected and then they will be interviewed based on their odes, experience or judgments on the impact of domestic violence on the teenagers and then afterward their answers will be recorded and this way the sampling will be over (Bracewell, 2017).

Recruitment of Sample

As here, it has focused on the random sampling of the individual and the selection or the recruitment has been done accordingly. Here the selected individuals have been selected in a group and have been divided as per the age ranging between 14 to 25 years (Cunha Cordeiro et al., 2020). And accordingly, their observations were being recorded and accordingly, the analysis was being done. This analysis was based on domestic violence and homelessness and the most important note is that most of the individuals have directly or indirectly experienced or witnessed domestic violence. And this shows that specifically the Australians have the culture for this domestic violence and this has been experienced by almost more than half of the teenagers in the selected group (Cunha Cordeiro et al., 2020).

Ethics

Voluntary Participation

In this particular research, it is highly important that the principle of voluntary participation is met throughout. The research mainly discusses the problems in relation to domestic violence. Domestic violence is a very delicate and, in many cases, a very private matter. The people who have suffered through domestic violence do not often have the willingness to have any discussion with another person in relation to the life that a person had to live. Domestic violence is a matter of suffering at the hands of a close person or someone who is supposed to be a closed person. In this research, the researcher is willing to establish a relationship between domestic violence and another non-ideal situation in the life of a human being, which is homelessness. Hence, it is highly important that the participant in this research are doing so as a result of their own choices (Steen, 2018). Any mechanism undertaken by the researcher with regard to coercing the participant without having informed about the full process of the research would be highly unethical on part of the researcher. It is also important for the participant to know about the details of the research. The researcher has to inform the participant about every detail the participant wants to know about the research.

Informed Consent

Informed Consent means that the information regarding the research processes and the research methods in relation to the scope of the participant must be informed by the researcher at the beginning. A well-informed research participant would ask for such processes from the very beginning. In that case, it is the duty of the researcher, who is asking the participant to take part in the individual research, to inform the participant about the details. Once the information is available to the participant, then only any form of consent can be provided.

Confidentiality

It is also highly important for the researcher to maintain the confidentiality of the participant. Since domestic violence, the subject that this particular research deals with is an intimate and personal subject, it is highly important that the researcher maintain the confidentiality of the research participant. The research participant has good reasons to ask for the identity to not be revealed. Under such circumstances, it is important for the researcher to follow the procedure of confidentiality. In many cases, the researcher might have the chance of overlooking such a problem area. However, in this research, it would be highly consequential if that is done by the researcher.
